My incredibly talented friend Ruby wrote and illustrated a children’s book — and it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read. The Colours of Bao Bao is a heartfelt, thoughtful story about a little panda who begins to change in ways that make them feel different from everyone else.

But this book isn’t just about colours or pandas. At its core, it’s about learning to accept and celebrate yourself — especially when the world doesn’t always make that easy. Ruby wrote it with autism in mind, and it’s a powerful message about embracing neurodiversity, being proud of who you are, and helping others see the beauty in what makes us unique.

I was so proud of Ruby and so moved by the story that I went out and got Bao Bao tattooed on me. That’s how much this book, and Ruby’s message, means to me. It’s now a permanent reminder of acceptance, identity, and the importance of telling stories like this.

Ruby is seriously so talented. If you’re looking for something beautiful to read with your kids — or something meaningful to keep on your own shelf — I can’t recommend The Colours of Bao Bao enough.
